Equus 3340 Good Value.
Have only used it three time so far, but works great. I like the reverse polarity feature that displays a minus sign.
It's a great product with many uses. Test anything from batteries to antifreeze potency with this meter.
Equus 3340 works well.
I use the thing almost exclusively for reading DC voltage drops and temperatures. Current and more elaborate automotive stuff is not my thing. For my purposes the unit is probably an overkill, but the price is low so why not. Voltages are read fine. It takes some time for the reading to stabilize; I think that is because of the autoranging, but once again for my purposes it doesn't matter. Temperature readings taken with a third party immersible probe appear to be reasonably accurate; thermostats that I've tested opened just when they were supposed to, and coolant temperatures taken by the OBD coolant sensor and by the probe are within 5 degrees.
I've paid about as much to McMaster for a set of modular test leads and a number of various tips - hooks, alligators, pincers... Test leads with permanently attached needle tips included with this multimeter have only a very limited number of applications.
Equus 3140 Automotive Digital Multimeter Works Great.
I was hesitant to get this due to the negative review a buyer left about Dwell/Tach functions not working on his old volkswagens. HOWEVER ... I decided to purchase it and try it out for myself.
I have a 78 VW Bus (points ignition) and I just checked my dwell to see if the dwell feature functioned correctly. I hooked everything up, as per the instructions in the manual, and it worked fine.
The negative review could have been user error, or it could have been a bad unit, but *MINE* works great. I will be buying the Equus 5568 Pro-Timing Light with Tool Case in the very near future to complete my tuneup needs.
Comes with: The multimeter itself, Instructions (please read them), a nice nylon storage pouch, test leads, Temp. Probe, and a clamp style lead for ignition wires etc.
Do yourself a favor and order yourself some Test Lead Alligator Clips when you purchase this, they are not included and VERY handy to have.

The multimeter has all you need and then some. Professional grade and all settings wanted for 12v testing. I especially like the auto range function which takes the guess work out of some testings.
